- Personal Journal on October 10th, 2025<div><br></div><div>As is often the case with the President Trump’s abrupt tariff imposition remarks against China, stock markets today plunged sharply, displaying anxious outlook for economy. However, this is a great opportunity for investors to make profits out of this volatility. In my optimistic view, markets will soon bounce back as anxiety goes away. In fact, many of the stocks in my watch list are showing the signs of recovery in after hours. So, I am going to carefully look into the move of each individual stock to see which ones to buy during this weekend. I am very much confident that I can earn allowance for myself from this attempt in a short term trading. </div><div><br></div><div>It is unwise to get panicked about the sudden fall of stocks and take immediate selling action because stock price is going to rise again in a matter of days or weeks, which I don’t know exactly how long it takes. But I know it is going to rise again. Meanwhile, it is substantial to know the reason of the fall and obtain the necessary information to analyze the daily changing situation from various sources. We should also pursue insights from trustworthy experts in order to build confidence in our decision making. Their experience and knowledge is definitely vital for our success in stock trading. </div><div><br></div><div>Finally, it takes courage to buy stocks that are plummeting since the fear of losing money always follows. “Buy the dip.” It is easier said than done. But I can tell from my own experience that those who can actually buy the dip are better off than those who always buy stocks when they are going up. Anyways, I will prove my words and see how it turns out.</div>

- 究極の文法学習方法
- これまでも何度かコラムにも書いてきていることですが英語の文法<wbr>の理解を高める方法として、<wbr>実際に学んだ文法を使って自分なりに書く事を勧めたい。<wbr>学校で学ぶ多くの中高生の勉強の仕方を見ていると最初に基本的な<wbr>学びをした後、<wbr>いくつか選択問題や穴埋め問題をしてそれでおしまいにしている場<wbr>合が多いです。ある程度土台ができたならば、<wbr>実際に書くことで自分で考えて文章を組み立てるよう挑戦すべきで<wbr>す。<br><br>書くスキルが育たないのは、シンプルに言うと書かないからです。<wbr>授業中に生徒が書くような時間もないのでしょう。<wbr>それであれば課題として次回の授業までに提出させるなどした方が<wbr>良いでしょうね。その際に、<wbr>新出単語を使用するよう試みるなどすると効率よく単語も覚えられます。自分で文章が書ければ、会話にも活かせます。<br><br>書ける能力は本当に理解しているからその文章を生み出す事ができ<wbr>るわけで正直難易度は高いです。<wbr>書くためには学び直す必要があります。<wbr>うろ覚えだとできないので必ず復習する必要がでてきます。<wbr>自分で考えて理解することで書けるようになる。このプロセスがとても大切なのです。<wbr>結果として読解においても高い理解力を得られるようになります。<br><br>メリットしかないので中高生の皆さん書いてください。<wbr>考える力を養って、それを書き出してください。<wbr>そして添削してもらってまた書き直して、新しく文章を作ります。添削にはChatGPTやCopilotのようなAIが便利です。できるようになるまで何度も繰り返しやってみてください。<wbr>そうすればかなり力になりますよ。

Moreover, certain information might be hidden or falsified under government control of the Internet. AI excels at identifying patterns far faster than humans. With its assistance, medical researchers are developing new medicines in a fraction of the time traditional research would require. If AI were restricted in scientific research, groundbreaking discoveries might be delayed or missed altogether. AI is also key in creating autonomous vehicles, which could revolutionize transportation. </div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>In conclusion, the government should not restrict the use of AI. Instead, it should promote its integration into all aspects of society so that we can fully benefit from the technological revolution. While concerns such as copyright infringement and the potential misuse of AI in warfare are valid, these issues should be addressed carefully and collaboratively with other nations. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve…”<br>— Mark 10:44–45<br><br>This verse reflects my core belief about what true leadership is, based on biblical principles. I’m writing this journal entry because ever since I started my new job, I’ve begun to see and hear things about the company’s operations that strongly contrast with what I understand about leadership from a biblical perspective.<br><br>As this passage from Mark makes clear, a true leader is a servant. Leadership is not about being above others, but about caring for them. Serving others expresses love, compassion, kindness, and gratitude—essential values for any healthy community or organization. This applies to the business world as well. Leaders in companies—CEOs, executive managers, directors, and department heads—should dedicate themselves to stewardship, remaining humble and leading by example.<br><br>Unfortunately, in today’s corporate culture, this biblical principle is often missing. Many leaders display their authority with arrogance, managing by intimidation, harsh words, or belittling behavior. Employees are left stressed, discouraged, and undervalued. Even when there’s no direct abuse, a culture of flattery and fear often takes over, with workers feeling they must constantly lift up their superiors just to avoid reprimand.<br><br>Why must employees treat their bosses like royalty? Why is humility seen as weakness while pride is rewarded? Sadly, this seems to be a lingering effect of Japan’s old feudal mentality, which remains deeply embedded in our social structure—even long after the shogunate era ended. I find this deeply troubling. And yet, as long as I’m part of this company, I can’t simply run from it.<br><br>Many employees voice their frustration. Bitterness spreads. And still, no real reform happens under ineffective management. The talents of dedicated workers are wasted, and resignations are frequent. It breaks my heart to witness this.<br><br>More than that, it makes me concerned about my own future. The president and board keep pushing for higher profits. But how is that possible when experienced staff are quitting and no new workers are joining? There’s a disconnect between vision and reality.<br><br>To be honest, I believe many leaders in Japan need to put down their accounting manuals and business strategy books—and start reading the Bible. There, they would learn what it truly means to lead with wisdom, integrity, and humility. I earnestly pray that they would humble themselves before God Almighty and allow His Word to shape their understanding of leadership. - うまくいかないから挑戦しがいがある。<br><br>When things don’t go well, people tend to become frustrated and irritated. Most people go through situations like these so many times in their lives. I myself sometimes feel the same way when I encounter challenges that are hard to overcome. However, an important thing to keep in mind is that it is indeed worth challenging to face difficulties. Now, some of you may wonder how in the world could it be so.<br><br>Well, we come to learn from making mistakes or repeatedly encountering similar problems. This is true for people of all ages, from little kids to elderly people alike. Knowledge and skills obtained through a number of challenges will grant us greater confidence and fulfillment, enabling us to achieve tasks we weren’t previously capable of carrying out. People who have gone through this process numerous occasions will eventually cultivate resilient and unwavering character within them. In this sense, facing difficulties is a process of becoming more matured and fruitful human beings.<br><br>However, some people display attitudes, making people around them uncomfortable and unapproachable when facing challenges. This kind of behavior is often seen among people who hold pride. This pride actually hinders them from growing or improving themselves in the long run. It is important to recognize that when facing challenges, we are hitting a glass ceiling, meaning that we cannot overcome by our current status any more. That’s the time when we need to take time to enhance our capacity, increase our productivity, and educate ourselves. To do so, we may depend on resources such as teachers in a school, tutors in a cram school, seniors at work or even educational contents on YouTube. Willingness, commitment and persistence along with a humble attitude are essential factors for going beyond our limits. By understanding our inability and accepting it, we can effectively deal with our challenges. Prideful people have troubles with it since they have been doing well and barely dealt with challenges before. They think “I can do it.” But I would say “Yes! You can do it up to this point.”<br><br>I am not going to say that all prides are bad. Pride, which is the byproduct of a person’s great efforts, should be cherished upon achievements. But one day the person will have to move up to a higher stage. Then, he needs to forget the past glory and become a rookie again. A humble and meek man is like a sponge that absorbs quickly and enjoys even challenges, knowing they will make him stronger. In conclusion, if you think you are easy to get irritable when studying something hard or tackling a mind blowing problem or exam, just let go of your pride. Then, you might be ready to learn from others. Enjoy your challenges because your journey is full of challenges, which will make you a person you want to be in the future.

Over time, this will help you naturally improve your writing fluency and style.<div><br></div><div><br></div><div> <h2>Sleepless Nights</h2><div><br>Recently, I’ve been getting very little sleep—only about four hours a night before waking up. This is mainly due to anxiety about my financial situation. The recent stock market crash has affected me to some extent, but my biggest concern is my low-paying job.<br><br>It’s been over a year since I started thinking about changing jobs. The caregiving work I do is not financially promising, even if I were to pursue it for the rest of my career. Now that I’ve become largely responsible for paying utilities, home insurance, property tax, and other expenses, I need a more stable source of income.<br><br>So, last month, I decided to take action and began searching for a new job. Many of my applications were rejected, but my most recent attempt seems to have gone well. The company I applied to invited me for an interview, which I attended yesterday. I got a good feeling about it, and the result will be announced in a week. Until then, I find myself in an awkward situation—unsure whether to continue my current job or prepare for a new role as a salesperson.<br><br>I trust that God is in control of my life, so I have to leave this matter in His hands. To be honest, I don’t want to work as a care worker anymore. However, if the interview result is negative, I will have to stay in my current job. If that’s the case, I’ll accept it as God’s will and do my best. But this feels like a turning point in my life, and I’m eager to see how things unfold in the coming week. The new job seems promising, especially with the incentive bonus they offer for good sales performance, which would motivate me to work harder.<br><br>Since I have the day off today, I’ll take it easy—pray, relax, and take a nap before my tutoring job tonight. <br></div></div>

- 卒業によせて
- Today, 28th of February is the day of graduation for high schools in nearby cities where I live. There was a male student I had been teaching at cram school. Since he passed a college admission exam, he brought a Japanese history textbook to study during the time with me. Today, he is also one of the students who are going to graduate from high school and proceed to study at college. May he have a great future ahead as he goes to college. <div><br></div><div>Anyway, I was just chatting with him yesterday, talking about Christian faith, and how I became Christian while studying abroad. For me, being born again Christian was a turning point in my life. From then, I followed the path of Christ. I shared my experiences and miracles that I had witnessed during my exchange year when I was in high school with him. I got excited as I talked, feeling the sense of fire in my heart and getting more passionate about the Lord, Jesus Christ. I just hope and pray that he could grasp the glimpse of my heart for the Lord, and that one day, he might come to realize what I was talking about. My wish is that ten years, twenty years down the road, he would retrospect the words I spoke to him. May God bless him with abundant grace. May he become a great teacher in school someday, which is his dream. Congratulations on your graduation! </div>

- 日本の英語教育の発展には、<wbr>キリスト教の影響が大きく関わっています。幕末から明治にかけて、西洋化を急いだ日本政府は多くの宣教師をアメリカやヨーロッパから招き国内で広くキリスト教の布教および英語教育の実践を許可しました。<div>新島襄、津田梅子、など多くの日本人がアメリカに留学し現地で洗礼を受けました。帰国後は日本の教育の発展に寄与しましたが特に英語教育に重きを置きました。<br></div><div><br>新島襄（にいじま じょう）<br><br>新島襄は、同志社英学校（現在の同志社大学）の創設者であり、<wbr>日本の近代教育において重要な役割を果たしました。<wbr>彼はアメリカで学び、<wbr>キリスト教精神に基づいた教育を日本に根付かせようとしました。<wbr>同志社英学校では、英語教育を重視し、<wbr>多くの学生が英語を学ぶ機会を得ました。<br><br>津田梅子（つだ うめこ）<br><br>津田梅子は、津田塾大学の創設者であり、<wbr>女性の英語教育の先駆者です。彼女は幼い頃にアメリカに留学し、<wbr>帰国後、日本の女子教育の発展に尽力しました。<wbr>津田塾では英語教育が中心に据えられ、<wbr>女性が高度な教育を受けられる場を提供しました。<wbr>津田梅子もキリスト教の価値観に影響を受け、<wbr>教育の場でそれを実践しました。<br><br>グイド・フルベッキ（Guido Verbeck）<br><br>フルベッキはオランダ出身の宣教師で、<wbr>幕末から明治時代にかけて日本の教育と近代化に大きな影響を与え<wbr>ました。彼は長崎や東京で英語や西洋学問を教え、<wbr>多くの明治政府の指導者（大久保利通、伊藤博文など）<wbr>を育てました。彼の教育活動を通じて、<wbr>英語が近代日本の発展において重要な役割を果たすことが確立され<wbr>ました。<br><br>キリスト教と日本の英語教育<br><br>キリスト教系の学校（同志社、明治学院、立教、青山学院、<wbr>関西学院など）は、<wbr>日本の英語教育の中心的な役割を果たしてきました。<wbr>これらの学校では、聖書を教材として用いることも多く、<wbr>英語教育とキリスト教精神が結びついていました。また、<wbr>英語を通じてキリスト教文化や西洋の思想を学ぶ機会を提供し、<wbr>日本の近代化にも寄与しました。<br><br>現在でも、<wbr>キリスト教系の大学や高校では英語教育が重視されており、<wbr>日本の英語教育の歴史には、<wbr>キリスト教の影響が深く根付いていると言えます。<br><br>日本の英語教育に影響を与えたキリスト教関係者は、新島襄、<wbr>津田梅子、フルベッキのほかにも多くいます。<wbr>以下に代表的な人物を紹介します。<br><br>1. ジェームス・カーティス・ヘボン（James Curtis Hepburn, 1815–1911）<br>• アメリカ出身の医師・宣教師で、<wbr>日本での英語教育と聖書翻訳に貢献した。<br>• 「ヘボン式ローマ字」 を考案し、日本語を英語表記する方法を確立。<br>• 横浜に ヘボン塾（現在の明治学院大学の前身） を設立し、英語教育を行った。<br><br>2. ウィリアム・スミス・クラーク（William Smith Clark, 1826–1886）<br>• アメリカの教育者で、北海道の 札幌農学校（現在の北海道大学） を設立。<br>• 生徒に「Boys, be ambitious!（少年よ、大志を抱け）」<wbr>と語りかけたことで有名。<br>• 札幌農学校で英語教育を実施し、多くの優秀な学生を育てた。<br>• キリスト教を広め、日本の近代教育にも大きな影響を与えた。<br><br>3. ジョセフ・ハーディ・ニーズマ（Joseph Hardy Neesima, 1843–1890）<br>• 新島襄（にいじま じょう）の英語名。同志社英学校を設立し、<wbr>キリスト教と英語教育の普及に尽力。<br>• アメリカ留学後、日本に戻り キリスト教精神に基づいた近代教育 を実践した。<br><br>4. サミュエル・ロビンス・ブラウン（Samuel Robbins Brown, 1810–1880）<br>• 日本最初のプロテスタント宣教師の一人で、<wbr>英語教育を通じてキリスト教を広めた。<br>• 横浜に ブラウン塾（後の明治学院の前身） を開設し、多くの日本人学生に英語を教えた。<br>• 聖書の翻訳にも関与し、日本の英語教育とキリスト教布教に貢献。<br><br>5. ルドルフ・トイスラー（Rudolf Teusler, 1876–1934）<br>• アメリカの宣教師・医師で、聖路加国際病院 を創設。<br>• 病院の中で英語教育を実施し、<wbr>医療分野でも英語が重要な言語として広まるきっかけを作った。<br>• 日本における医療英語の普及にも貢献。<br><br>6. アリス・ベーコン（Alice Mabel Bacon, 1858–1918）<br>• 津田梅子とともに日本の女子教育に尽力したアメリカ人教育者。<br>• 1890年、日本政府の招きで来日し、女子英学塾（<wbr>後の津田塾大学） で英語を教えた。<br>• 日本女性に英語を教え、西洋文化を紹介したことで、<wbr>日本の女子教育の発展に貢献。<br><br>7. ダニエル・クロスビー・グリーン（Daniel Crosby Greene, 1843–1913）<br>• アメリカの宣教師で、同志社や東京一致神学校（<wbr>後の東京神学大学）で英語とキリスト教を教えた。<br>• 文部省の英語教育政策にも関与 し、日本の英語教育制度の形成に影響を与えた。<br><br>8. バジル・ホール・チェンバレン（Basil Hall Chamberlain, 1850–1935）<br>• イギリス出身の言語学者で、東京帝国大学（現在の東京大学） で英語と日本語を教えた。<br>• 日本語と英語の比較研究を行い、日本の英語教育の基盤を作る。<br><br>これらの人物たちは、キリスト教の布教とともに、<wbr>日本の英語教育の発展に大きく貢献しました。彼らの影響で、<wbr>多くのキリスト教系学校が設立され、<wbr>日本の近代教育が形成されていきました。現在でも、明治学院、<wbr>立教、青山学院、同志社、津田塾、国際基督教大学、西南学院大学などのキリスト教系の学校は、<wbr>日本の英語教育の中心的な役割を担っています。また、英語を学ぶこと、国際的な人材になるということは欧米の文化を学ぶことであり、その観点から欧米の宗教、キリスト教を知るとより英語に親しむことができるというのは今日の日本において未信者にも広く受け入れられている事実なのかなと思います。なので、英語を深く学びたいと思う方は、ぜひキリスト教についての理解も深めていただければと思います。</div>

- 国立大学二次試験に向けて
- 国立大学の2次試験が迫ってきています。<wbr>学習塾で英語講師をしていて思うのは二次英語の準備は共通テスト<wbr>が終わってからでは遅すぎるということです。そもそも、<wbr>共通テストの英語と二次の英語は難易度が違います。<wbr>二次英語の方が遥かに難しいです。<wbr>英検準1級位の難しさがあると感じます。また、<wbr>回答方法が記述式で英文和訳や和文英訳があり、<wbr>文字数制限がある中で論理的に思考し簡潔に記すという高度な内容<wbr>もあります。<wbr>そもそも高い読解力の上に記述する能力が求められています。<wbr>それを共通テストを終えてから1ヶ月くらいで準備するのは不可能<wbr>に近いです。<br><br>したがって、<wbr>国立大学を志望するのであればなるべく早く対策しておかなければ<wbr>ならないでしょう。私の感覚では、<wbr>共通テストで高得点は2次試験英語の対策をしているのであれば自<wbr>然に取れるようになります。なので、<wbr>共通テストの勉強は国立大学二次英語対策を高校2年時から始めて<wbr>いれば、<wbr>共通テスト1ヶ月前に過去問を3ヵ年くらいしていれば余裕で突破<wbr>できるようになるでしょう。私はTOEICを受験して８０５点取ったときは高校３年時でしたが、TOEICのために勉強したわけではなくアメリカ留学してある程度の英語力が身についていたのでそれくらいの点数が取れました。共通テストの英語は文章量が多いのですが、二次試験の英語と比べたら分かりやすく容易です。なので、日々難しい事をやっていれば共通テストの英語であれば容易にできるようになります。<br><br>二次英語のために具体的にどういう勉強していればいいの？<wbr>と思われると思います。語彙に関しては英検、<wbr>準1級あたりまでは覚えておいてください。そして、<wbr>自分の意見は英語で言えるようにライティングのスキルも磨いてく<wbr>ださい。<wbr>良い練習方法はChatGPTと英語でチャットすることです。<wbr>やりながら、文法や語句も訂正してもらいながら覚えられます。<wbr>また、<wbr>他の国立大学の過去問も似たような問題形式になるので記述問題をたくさん解<wbr>いておくことをお勧めします。そうすることで、<wbr>論理的な思考や英語での自己表現力が身につきます。<br><br>とにかく、国立大学の英語は難関大学問わず難しいです。<wbr>現役生は共通テストが終わってからなどと言わず高2から意識して対策しておいてください。
